| Adapted by Fiona Buffini Based on the novel by James Stephens Storytellers Theatre Company’s most ambitious project to date, The Crock of Gold is a vivacious satire that re-examines the way we should live in Ireland today. Celebrating its 20th Anniversary Storytellers’ contemporary reinvention of one of Ireland’s most extraordinary folk tales looks at how spiritually bankrupt we have become in post Celtic Tiger Ireland. This visual treat by Storytellers, a co-production with The Civic Theatre, also offers a wonderful tale full of magic, myth and mayhem. The Crock of Gold offers audiences a fantastic journey of adventure to a magical universe of vivid characters: forgotten gods, angry leprechauns, unhappy marriages and stupid policemen. When the Leprechaun’s crock of gold is stolen, strange happenings haunt the shadowy Pine Wood - for the first time the pagan god Pan is seen lurking in the fields. The inhabitants of the Pine Wood, the philosopher and his wife, are at each others throats. Their children have gone missing and Caitilin, a beautiful young farmer’s daughter, has also vanished. The philosopher goes on a journey to seek help from the powerful and mysterious Celtic god, Aengus Óg. The story unfolds and culminates in a revelation inviting our forgotten gods back to the grey and joyless city. In its journey, The Crock of Gold teaches unity, wisdom and the true meaning of love - celebrating Irish myth and a unique blend of humour, high spirits and sensuality – a perfect ingredient to kick-start Spring and growth this year during the St. Patrick’s Festival 2006. This new version of James Stephens’ fable is adapted and directed by Fiona Buffini - one of the most exciting talents in contemporary theatre. Fiona has worked with the RSC and the National Theatre in London to critical acclaim. Her most recent production, The 39 Steps for West Yorkshire Playhouse was a great success. The Crock of Gold premieres at The Olympia Theatre, Dublin, Wednesday 15th March in association with the St. Patrick’s Festival 2006 - prior to a national ten-week tour to eleven venues. Portlaoise, Cork, Bray, Tralee, Galway, Kilkenny, Longford, Navan, Ballymun & Tallaght. Click Here for Full Tour Details
